Providing home visit guitar lessons within Narre Warren &  the Casey area – My teaching is focused on giving students of all ages the skills to enjoy music as a whole and become independent learners of their instrument, with lessons that are based around  fun and practical uses of foundational music theory with the end goal of what I believe to be the real joy of music; creativity & experimentation.

“Ben has been teaching our son guitar for several years. In that time our son has come a very long way In his skill progression. Ben is a talented teacher and has a knack for imparting skill and knowledge in a friendly and professional manner. He also managed to keep our son motivated and passionate about guitar for the long run and for that we are very grateful"

My Teaching Philosophy

Learn to listen

Listening is an essential part of music, and should be included in their learning curriculum. Many lessons will start first and foremost with active, focused listening, while the home environment should encourage the listening of quality music.

Discovery, experimentation and creativity

Creativity stimulates many parts of the brain when playing an instrument, whilst testing the student on multiple areas of their skills so far. It also allows the student to challenge themselves to fufill their own personal creative ideas.

Learning at home

Learning must always continue at home for the student to be succesful in learning their instrument. Above all the most important thing is a positive learning environment at home must be maintained, one free from criticism and centred around encouragement.

Learning music like a language

Music is a language like any other, it is best learnt through listening, imitating and improvising. From this idea students will gain high aural skills, allowing them to learn songs on their own, and gain an inner musical voice.

Philosophy
Ben Hope, Guitar Teacher.

About Me

I was born and raised in Cairns, and I have been passionate about playing guitar since the age of 8. The guitar is a versatile and expressive instrument that can be enjoyed whether you aspire to be in a band, as a soloist or just want to have fun experimenting with sounds.

I've worked as the guitarist/multi-instrumentalist and composer of the Duo Twelve Ballet, from which I have had the pleasure of opening for Australian acts such as Amy Shark & Vera Blue.

Alongside my 10 years experience teaching guitar, I've also completed a Bachelor of Music (Graduate with distinction) from the Central Queensland Conservatorium, furthering my own exploration into jazz and classical training. Pairing this knowledge with my blues background, I have continued to develop my teaching methods to approach an even broader range of topics and musical styles, whilst maintaining focus on practicality, creativity and fun.

Now, it's been 20 years since I first picked up a guitar, and I love to pass on what I've learnt to new musicians. I understand the passion that one can have for an instrument and enjoy being there to foster that passion and assist in each individuals personal development. I believe lessons should be above all fun and inspiring, and its my goal to get each student where they want to go.
